Emulating solid state physics with microcavity polaritons - Alberto Amo - Jeudi 11 février à 16 h 30

Exciton-polaritons in semiconductor microcavities have appeared as excellent platforms for photonic simulation of complex Hamiltonians. Using lithographic and dry etching techniques, their potential landscape can be engineered allowing the design of the polariton dispersion. We will present a 2D honeycomb lattice for polaritons showing Dirac cones and novel edge states. Using a 1D Lieb lattice we study polariton lasing in a flat band, a simulator for the interplay between kinetic energy and disorder. Our simulator can also address the physics of aperiodic lattices with fractal energy spectra. These experimental results show the potential of using exciton-polaritons to study, for instance, artificial gauge fields in interacting systems.
