We study the localized surface plasmon and surface plasmon polaritron response using photoemission electron microscopy with 2-photon femtosecond excitation. Using 400nm, 800nm, and pulse pair ultrafast irradiation, we investigate the enhancement of electromagnetic fields without the need for a probe molecule. Structures studied include solid metal nanospheres, core-shell spheres, gratings, trenches, triangles in both Ag (silver) and Au (gold). From this, conclusions are drawn and specific insight is gain in the nature and formation of « hot spots ».
